Solar Flood Lights Reviews
Otdair Solar Security Lights, 3 Head Sensor, 2 Pack
Specification:
- Lumens: 550 (per light)
- Type: Motion detection
- IP rating: IP65
I was able to lighten a 35-foot long sidewalk using the Otdair solar flood lamps. The lights were placed on the wall near me and directed in the right direction. Although 550 lumens may not be very bright, the light was enough to make it easy to see the path I was on. To direct the light, I could adjust the heads to the upward or downward position.
These are motion-detection-only lights, making the installation of them well suited for both security and illuminating nighttime, dark areas for safety purposes. Each security light above was on when I was within 25 feet of it. They stayed on for approximately 30 seconds after I left the area.
They are easy models to install with screws and have an IP65 rating. This means they were not damaged during the snow and sleet storms.
Both lights lit up when tested in the morning just before dawn.
Otdair Solar Security Lights, 3 Head Sensor, 2 Pack – PROS & CONS
Pros
- Adjustable light heads
- Good value for the price
- Easy installation
Cons

TBI Security Solar Lights Outdoor 216 LED
Specification:
- Lumens: 2,200
- Type: Motion detection
- IP rating: IP65
The TBI Security Solar Light has 216 LEDs on the front panel and two adjustable side leds with integrated solar panels each. It offers a wide range of illumination. I was able to have remote controls to rotate and tilt the three light heads to change the direction of the lights so that they illuminated small area at a 180-degree angle.
Although the manufacturer claims that the can be adjusted to 355 degrees by rotating and tilting its output of three light heads, the maximum degree of directional illumination is only possible if the light’ output assembly built in solar panels is mounted on a corner of a building. The light’ output will be blocked by the building if it’ output assembly is not installed on the corner of a building.
The light’s motion sensor impressed me. It picked up my movements from 38 feet away. It is powered by a 2,200 mAh lithium-ion cell and offers 2,200 lumens of brightness. Although it is not a bright light, it can be used to see up to 40 feet away in dark anywhere.
TBI lights are IP65 rated to protect from dust and resist occasional rain, though it was not affected by the snow or sleet storm. It performed just as well as before the storm.
The TBI flood light was activated by motion and remained on for approximately 30 seconds even after I moved beyond the sensor’s range. It stayed on as long as I kept moving within the range of the sensor. The only problem was that the beams could be seen in dark areas if the sidelights were moved outwards more than 45 degrees.
It wasn’t an issue for me as I placed the main light in the middle of the patio and each sidelight toward the two side gates. This could be a problem for those who want a strong field of illumination.

The floodlight was installed on a tree that overlooked my dogs’ play area entrance. after installation, I could see the gate clearly from the window of my house, next door which is about 150 feet away. Before the install of Tin Sum Solar Energy floodlight, I was required to have a flashlight with me when I took the dogs outside and brought them back inside.

It would be switched on when I was going to the play area, and it would remain on while my dogs were playing in the yard. It would be switched back on when we returned indoors. To use the other lights or remote controls, I needed to be within 20 feet of it. It is IP67 rated and survived the snow and sleet storms without any issues.

Westinghouse Security Light 1000 Lumens Solar Lights
Specification:
- Lumens: 1,000
- Type: Motion detection
- IP rating: IPX4
When motion or lighting is detected within 20 feet of the sensor, the Westinghouse solar flood lamp emits 1,000-lumen bright lights at full brightness at a 120-degree angle. The light turns off after 30 seconds when it is triggered by motion sensors. The Westinghouse lamp has a built-in lithium-ion battery of 2,000 mAh.
The front light fixture was mounted under an eave in a garage on the east and the solar panel was installed on the south side via a 9-foot cord. The long cord let me place the light wherever I wanted it to stand or be, not just on the sunny side.
The IPX4 rating on this flood light indicates that it can withstand a splash of water but not suffer damage. The floodlight can withstand some rain or snow, but I placed it under the eave to ensure extra protection.
After sunset, I walked by the light and it turned on. While I was walking nearby, it stayed on for about 30 seconds before turning off. It provided 30 feet of bright white light and clear light, although it did not have the same illumination range as other lights. During the time I was testing, we had a snow/sleet storm and the Westinghouse light was completely covered with ice for several days. It still worked well after the ice had melted.

URPOWER Solar Lights Outdoor, 40 LED Motion Sensor
Specification:
- Lumens: 800 (per light)
- Type: Motion detection
- IP rating: IP65
The 800 lumens of bright, warm light each of the small URPOWER solar floodlights emits is 800 lumens. They can be placed in the same area as a patio or walkway to provide ample illumination.
Each of the four URPOWER light fixtures was installed on trees next to a playground. The lights lit up as soon as I walked within 20 feet of them. They remained on for as long as I was moving around the small area, and eventually turned off after 30 minutes. Because the beams from each four light fixture are approximately 100 degrees wide, I found the best illumination by placing them close together (about 15 feet apart).
Although the URPOWER lights aren’t equipped with many bells or whistles, they are well-made and very bright for their small size. They collectively emit 3,200 lumens when all four lights are turned on. They were fine after the snowstorm and sleet storm and lit up brightly the morning before dawn.
URPOWER Solar Lights Outdoor, 40 LED Motion Sensor – Pros & Cons
Pros
- Bright and warm light
- Installations using a single screw or nail
- A 4-pack of lights is sufficient to illuminate a larger area.

- Power Source: Solar
- Wattage: 10 watts
- Color Temperature: 5000K/3000K

The eLEDing overhead solar floodlight illuminates the ground below with a wide, circular beam of light. This is in contrast to other light sources which shine outward but don’t light up the area directly below the installation.
The dusk-to-dawn light was one of my favorites because it did not shine light into my eyes, even though it was installed above a shed door. The light output is 500 lumens, which is enough to illuminate a 25-foot area in a semicircle. Frosted light covers soften the light, making it more like a white glow rather than a bright beam. It can be installed over garage doors or side-entry doors or on a wall or tall fence that overlooks a path.
There are two modes for the leading light: it can either turn the light stays on at night and then stay on or it can light up when it senses motion. It worked the other light sources best because it was set to motion detection.
The battery ran out in the dusk-to-dawn mode in less than four hours. The eLEDing lamp turned on when motion was detected at 15 feet distance. It stayed on for 30 seconds after I moved away from the range. It has an IP65 rating and was not affected by the snow or sleet storms we experienced.
eLEDing Self-Contained 160° – Pros & Cons
Pros
- It lights up the ground and doesn’t glare at people’s eyes

Light Brightness, Coverage
Lumens are a measure of the intensity of light. The brighter the light, the more lumens it will produce. A 100-watt standard incandescent bulb, which is no longer available, produces approximately 1,600 lumens. An indoor night light, on the other hand, produces around 20 lumens.
The lumens of the brightness of solar flood lights will be stated in the description. The sun and beam’s width also affects the flood light’s brightness. A full light stays narrower sun and beam will appear brighter. Floodlights usually cast light over a 50-to 280-degree arc from the source. This allows you to choose a flood light to a narrow walkway, or to illuminate an entire house or yard.
Dusk-to-Dawn vs. Motion detection
Flood that go on from dusk to dawn turn on when the sun sets. They stay on until the battery is dead or they go out of charge. These solar powered flood lights are a great option for lighting your property continuously. Their batteries might not be charged to their maximum capacity if it was rainy or a bit overcast the day before.
The front security floodlight might go out after a few hours if this happens. Motion detection security light or flood lights and lamps turn on when they detect and stay on for a set amount of time before turning off. Motion-detection security lighting is a bit less energy-intensive and will last longer.
Capacity and Type Battery
The solar flood lights are powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. They charge during the day and then use stored energy to power them at night. They are rated in milliamp-hours (mAh) and built into the other solar powered solar flood lights too. The battery’s capacity is determined by the rating. Solar flood lights have ratings that range from 2,000 mAh up to 3,600mAh.
Charging and Run Time
For solar powered flood lights, to function and be fully charged, they need to be exposed to sufficient sunlight, for 6-8 hours. The battery can be charged and will run the solar powered flood lights and for between 3-8 hours depending on whether it is running continuously or turning on when it senses motion.
Large-capacity batteries are required for solar lights that operate from dawn to dusk. These solar lights are often equipped with large solar panels. This allows them to store and draw as much solar energy during the day as possible so that they can stay on all night.
Bulb Types
Nearly all lights today feature bright light emitting diodes (LEDs), which cast intense light beams, without heating up and drawing much power. For intense security lighting, LEDs are the best choice.
Ingress Protection Rating
It is a two-digit number that indicates how well an outdoor light resists moisture and debris. The first number is used to indicate how resistant the light is to damage from solid objects. It ranges between 1 and 6, with 6 being the most secure quality, and capable of keeping out fine dust.
The second number, which can range from 1-8, indicates how resistant the light is to water. A rating of 8 indicates that the light is completely waterproof. Flood lights are rated between 65 and 67.
