The 10 Solar Flood Lights
It is well-known that bright lights deter thieves and other ne’er do-wells. Before the advent of solar-powered lighting, homeowners had to either have experience with wiring or hire a professional electrician to install outdoor light fixtures. Today’s solar flood lights open up a whole new world of illumination–they’re affordable, powerful, and, best of all, they’re a snap to install.
The solar flood light market has boomed in recent years with more manufacturers offering brighter lights in smaller sizes. To find the best brands, I tried them all.
The size of your home and the preference for the lights to stay on or turn off depending on the motion will determine the best solar flood light. Find out what you should look for in solar flood lights and the results of my hands-on tests.

I was able to lighten a 35-foot long sidewalk using the Otdair solar flood lamps. The lights were placed on the wall near me and directed in the right direction. Although 550 lumens may not be very bright, the light was enough to make it easy to see the path I was on. To direct the light, I could adjust the heads to the upward or downward position.
These are motion-detection-only lights, making them well suited for both security and illuminating nighttime areas for safety purposes. Each light was on when I was within 25 feet of it. They stayed on for approximately 30 seconds after I left the area.
They are easy to install with screws and have an IP65 rating. This means they were not damaged during the snow and sleet storms.
Both lights lit up when tested in the morning just before dawn.

The TBI Security Solar Light has 216 LEDs on the front panel and two adjustable side panels. It offers a wide range of illumination. I was able to rotate and tilt the three light heads to change the direction of the lights so that they illuminated at a 180-degree angle.
Although the manufacturer claims that the panels can be adjusted to 355 degrees by rotating and tilting its three light heads, the maximum degree of directional illumination is only possible if the light is mounted on a corner of a building. The light will be blocked by the building if it is not installed on the corner of a building.
The light’s motion sensor impressed me. It picked up my movements from 38 feet away. It is powered by a 2,200 mAh lithium-ion cell and offers 2,200 lumens. Although it is not a bright light, it can be used to see up to 40 feet away.
TBI lights are IP65 rated to protect from dust and resist occasional rain, though it was not affected by the snow or sleet storm. It performed just as well as before the storm.
The TBI flood light was activated by motion and remained on for approximately 30 seconds even after I moved beyond the sensor’s range. It stayed on as long as I kept moving within the range of the sensor. The only problem was that the beams could be seen in dark areas if the sidelights were moved outwards more than 45 degrees.
It wasn’t an issue for me as I placed the main light in the middle of the patio and each sidelight toward the two side gates. This could be a problem for those who want a strong field of illumination.

A flood light doesn’t cost much. When the NACINIC LED solar floodlight was set to motion detection mode, it turned on at 15 feet from my sensor. It also worked in dusk to dawn mode, with full intensity. The dimmable intensity light turns on when the sensor detects motion and dims after 20 seconds to low intensity.
The Nacinic light only lasted 4 hours in full intensity, dusk to dawn mode. This was due to the rapid depletion of the rechargeable battery. The battery lasted the entire night in the low-intensity motion-detection mode, which I prefer.
The NACINIC flood lamp is powered by a 2,200 mAh lithium battery. The flood light’s 288 LED diodes emit 650 lumens at a wide angle of 270 degrees. Each flood light is sold in a 2-pack. It has an IP rating of 65, which means it is dust-tight. It was not affected by sleet or ice.
This NACINIC solar lamp is a great option for those looking for a cost-effective flood light solution. If it is in motion-detection mode, low-intensity, and motion-detection, it offers the best security.

- Lumens: Advertised as 24,000 (estimated at 4,500)
- Type: Dusk-to-dawn (and remote-operated)
- IP rating: IP67
Tin Sum Solar Energy flood lights are advertised at 24,000 lumens. However, compared to other lights I tested it is closer to 4,500 lumens. It’s still a great light, which turns on automatically when the sun goes down and remains on until the battery runs out. Although it didn’t stay on until sunrise for me, it did last 6 hours after receiving a full charge.
The floodlight was installed on a tree that overlooked my dogs’ play area entrance. I could see the gate clearly from the window of my house, which is about 150 feet away. Before the Tin Sum Solar Energy floodlight, I was required to have a flashlight with me when I took the dogs outside and brought them back inside.
The best way to use the light (for me) was to switch it on/off via the remote control. It would be switched on when I was going to the play area, and it would remain on while my dogs were playing in the yard. It would be switched back on when we returned indoors. To use the remote, I needed to be within 20 feet of it. It is IP67 rated and survived the snow and sleet storms without any issues.

When motion is detected within 20 feet of the sensor, the Westinghouse solar flood lamp emits 1,000-lumen bright lights at a 120-degree angle. The light turns off after 30 seconds when it is triggered by motion. The Westinghouse flood lamp has a built-in lithium-ion battery of 2,000 mAh.
The light was mounted under an eave in a garage on the east and the solar panel was installed on the south side via a 9-foot cord. The long cord let me place the light wherever I wanted it to be, not just on the sunny side.
The IPX4 rating on this light indicates that it can withstand a splash of water but not suffer damage. The floodlight can withstand some rain or snow, but I placed it under the eave to ensure extra protection.
After sunset, I walked by the light and it turned on. While I was walking nearby, it stayed on for about 30 seconds before turning off. It provided 30 feet of bright white light and clear light, although it did not have the same illumination range as other lights. During the time I was testing solar lights, we had a snow/sleet storm and the Westinghouse light was completely covered with ice for several days. It still worked well after the ice had melted.

The 800 lumens of bright, warm light each of the small URPOWER solar floodlights emits is 800 lumens. They can be placed in the same area as a patio or walkway to provide ample illumination.
Each of the four URPOWER light fixtures was installed on trees next to a small playground. The lights lit up as soon as I walked within 20 feet of them. They remained on for as long as I was moving around the area and eventually turned off after 30 minutes. Because the beams from each light are approximately 100 degrees wide, I found the best illumination by placing them close together (about 15 feet apart).
Although the URPOWER lights aren’t equipped with many bells or whistles, they are well-made and very bright for their small size. They collectively emit 3,200 lumens when all four lights are turned on. They were fine after the snowstorm and sleet storm and lit up brightly the morning before dawn.

The eLEDing overhead solar floodlight illuminates the ground below with a wide, circular beam of light. This is in contrast to other solar lights which shine outward but don’t light up the area directly below.
The dusk-to-dawn light was one of my favorites because it did not shine light into my eyes, even though it was installed above a shed door. The light output is 500 lumens, which is enough to illuminate a 25-foot area in a semicircle. Frosted light covers soften the light, making it more like a white glow rather than a bright beam. It can be installed over garage doors or side-entry doors or on a wall or tall fence that overlooks a path.
There are two modes for the leading light: it can either turn on at night and then stay on or it can light up when it senses motion. It worked the best because it was set to motion detection.
The battery ran out in the dusk-to-dawn mode in less than four hours. The eLEDing lamp turned on when motion was detected at 15 feet distance. It stayed on for 30 seconds after I moved away from the range. It has an IP65 rating and was not affected by the snow or sleet storms we experienced.

The Cyberdax streetlight is a great light with over 5,000 lumens. The high-quality remote control allows for the light to be adjusted to adjust its intensity so that it can be used in any application, from landscape lighting to patio lighting.
This flood light also has the additional benefit of fast charging and a longer run time than any other high-intensity solar light. It can last for over 10 hours.
Cyberdax’s solar flood light has one real flaw. It doesn’t have a motion sensor. This flood light instead has a timer that you can set to run for 3, 5, or 8 hours.Buy on Amazon
LEPOWER’s Solar Flood Light has three heads that can be adjusted to suit your lighting requirements. The floodlight produces 1,600 lumens. This is less than other options, but it will still light up your patio or sidewalk.
The LEPOWER solar floodlight also features a motion sensor. The motion sensor can detect movement up to 72 feet away, and the lights will turn on for between 10 and 120 seconds.
This solar wall light has a lot of great features, including its adjustable settings that allow you to change the motion sensor, lighting modes, and operating modes.

How to Choose the Best Solar Flood Lights
Solar flood lights are very affordable once they’re installed. The solar panels in the solar flood light collect energy from the sun and then store it in their internal batteries until nighttime. Solar flood lights can be installed almost anywhere. However, they will shine brightest if they are in direct sunlight during the day. Consider the following before you decide on solar lights for your home.
Light Brightness, Coverage
Lumens are a measure of the intensity of light. The brighter the light, the more lumens it will produce. A 100-watt standard incandescent bulb, which is no longer available, produces approximately 1,600 lumens. An indoor night light, on the other hand, produces around 20 lumens.
The lumens of most solar flood lights will be stated in the description. The beam’s width also affects the light’s brightness. A narrower beam will appear brighter. Floodlights usually cast light over a 50-to 280-degree arc from the light source. This allows you to choose a flood light to light a narrow walkway, or to illuminate an entire yard.
Dusk-to-Dawn vs. Motion detection
Flood lights that go on from dusk to dawn turn on when the sun sets. They stay on until the battery is dead or they go out of charge. These lights are a great option for lighting your property continuously. Their batteries might not be charged to their maximum capacity if it was rainy or overcast the day before.
The floodlight might go out after a few hours if this happens. Motion detection flood lamps turn on when they detect motion and stay on for a set amount of time before turning off. Motion-detection lighting is less energy-intensive and will last longer.
Capacity and Type Battery
The solar flood lights are powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion battery. They charge during the day and then use stored energy to power them at night. They are rated in milliamp-hours (mAh) and built into the lights. The battery’s capacity is determined by the rating. Solar flood lights have ratings that range from 2,000 mAh up to 3,600mAh.
Charging and Run Time
For solar flood lights to be fully charged, they need to be exposed to sufficient sunlight for 6-8 hours. The battery can be charged and will run the light for between 3-8 hours depending on whether it is running continuously or turning on when it senses motion.
Large-capacity batteries are required for solar lights that operate from dawn to dusk. These solar lights are often equipped with large solar panels. This allows them to store and draw as much solar energy during the day as possible so that they can stay on all night.
Nearly all solar flood lights today feature bright light emitting diodes (LEDs), which cast intense light beams, without heating up and drawing much power. For intense security lighting, LEDs are the best choice.
Ingress Protection Rating
It is a two-digit number that indicates how well an outdoor light resists moisture and debris. The first number is used to indicate how resistant the light is to damage from solid objects. It ranges between 1 and 6, with 6 being the most secure, and capable of keeping out fine dust.
The second number, which can range from 1-8, indicates how resistant the light is to water. A rating of 8 indicates that the light is completely waterproof. Flood lights are rated between 65 and 67.
The Westinghouse Solar Flood Light offers security and illumination. However, it is brighter and more visible when motion is detected. It can stay lit for as long as 30 seconds after the motion has stopped. The NACINIC Solar Flood Light has an optional dim mode. This saves battery power and is reliable, affordable, and reliable.
Which is better, solar or LED?
Comparing solar-powered LED light to conventional light shows that LED lamps have a longer lifespan and an electrical efficiency many times greater than the traditional lighting system. Additionally, LED lights outperform most fluorescent lamps.
Which is the most powerful solar flood light?
The WERISE Solar Light is the brightest of all these solar flood lights. It emits a bright 24,000 lumens pure white light.
What is the life expectancy of solar floodlights?
The useful life of a solar flood light will depend on its quality and how it is used. However, on average most users should be able to get 50,000 light from it.
