UK-based Alcemi says it has obtained planning permission for the development of 1.5 GW of battery power storage system (BESS) initiatives in Scotland, developed in partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Companions (CIP).
The Scottish Authorities Power Consents Unit has given the go-ahead to London-based renewables firm Alcemi and Danish funding agency CIP for the development of two large BESS initiatives.
The planning permission was granted to the 1 GW/2 GWh Rawhills Power Storage facility in Coalburn, south of Glasgow, and the five hundred MW/1,000 MWh Devilla Power Storage website in Fife, north of Edinburgh.
In response to Alcemi, CIP is predicted to take the last funding choice for the 2 BESS initiatives later this year, with development set to start shortly thereafter.
The 2 initiatives will assist the transmission system by limiting community constraints and enabling the mixing of renewable power sources into the grid.
“These initiatives will present stability to the grid, restrict community constraints, and are important to maximizing our offshore wind era. They’re a key element to making sure renewable power is transported throughout the nation,” stated Alcemi Growth Director James Forster.
Working carefully with native authorities and stakeholders, each initiative has undergone intensive environmental influence assessments, in response to the builders. Environmental initiatives embody tree and shrub planting and the creation of the latest habitats, which can improve biodiversity throughout the websites.
The 2 initiatives have been developed in collaboration with CIP by way of their Flagship Funds as a part of Alcemi’s 4 GW power storage portfolio deployed at key places throughout the UK. Alcemi’s goals are to develop a minimum of eight large-scale transmission-connected storage and community assistance initiatives throughout Nice Britain.
One other large battery undertaking by Alcemi, the five hundred MW/1,000 MWh Coalburn 1 set up, broke the floor in December, following CIP’s last funding choice. Canadian Photo Voltaic is supplying 1.7 GW (DC) of e-STORAGE lithium iron phosphate batteries for the undertaking.
